Emergency Department

This position requires volunteers to be highly sensitive to relative’s needs and be able to communicate in times of emotional stress and, as part of the Emergency Department, have the ability to support and comfort relatives.

Monday to Friday, 9.30am–1.30pm, 1.30pm–4.30pm


Collating

Collating of various packs and information supplied by various departments and collating of outpatient appointment letters

Whittaker Ward (Geriatric Evaluation and Management)

The volunteer program aims to improve the overall hospital experience for patients. Duties include providing emotional support and practical assistance to older people with dementia or patients who experience confusion.

Guides

Coming to hospital as a consumer or visitor can be stressful and confusing. The Guide Team provides volunteer support to welcome and assist consumers, their families, and visitors to the hospital. The Guide Team plays an important part in helping people to navigate the hospital to find the right clinical or support service.

Pet Therapy

Pet therapy, or animal-assisted therapy, is a type of therapy involving animals as a form of treatment. The goal may be to improve a patient’s social, emotional, or cognitive functioning. Volunteers and their pet will need to meet certain requirements in order to work in this area.

Infusion Suite

Assist the nursing staff to enrich the quality of care of patients. To provide appropriate additional comfort, company and diversional therapy to patients and to provide assistance and support to the families and friends of these patients.
