Retail areas at the Flinders Medical Centre provide patients, their families and medical staff easy access to products and services such as cafes, a news agency, food court, gift shop, banking and more. All workers in these areas are volunteers.

Cafe Bar

The volunteer Café Bar is located on level 3, next to the Emergency Department. It is our smallest Café which mainly caters to staff and visitors to the Emergency Department, ICU and EECU. Duties include:

• • Provide exceptional customer service to all our customers
  • Ensure food is prepared, presented, and served to the highest standard.
  • Making coffee and tea
  • Uphold the highest hygiene standards and safe work practices.
  • Preparation of light meals
  • Open and close the Café Bar
  • Assist with stock replenishment
  • Operating Redcat Point of Sale System

Time: Monday – Friday

Open to the public 10.00am – 3.30pm (Various shifts available)

Coffee Shop

The volunteer Coffee Shop is located on level 2 and is our busiest outlet which caters to many staff, patients, and visitors to the hospital. If you like a fast-paced environment and learning new skills, then this is the place for you. Duties include:

• • Provide exceptional customer service to all our customers
  • Ensure food is prepared, presented, and served to the highest standard.
  • Uphold the highest hygiene standards and safe work practices.
  • Making Barista made coffee and tea
  • Preparation of light meals
  • Open and close the Coffee Shop
  • Assist with stock replenishment
  • Operating Redcat Point of Sale System

Time: Monday – Friday

Open to the public 8.30am – 4.30pm (Various shifts available)

Courtyard Grill

The Courtyard Grill is located on level 2 in the Courtyard. It is an outdoor kitchen which serves freshly made hot meals from burgers, yiros, fully loaded baked potatoes and much more. If you like learning new skills whilst also having fun and meeting new people, then this is the place for you. Duties include:

• • Provide exceptional customer service to all our customers
  • Ensure food is prepared, cooked, presented, and served to the highest standard.
  • Uphold the highest hygiene standards and safe work practices.
  • Prepare for service and functions with precision and unwavering attention to detail and in a clean and organised manner
  • Making coffee and tea
  • Assist with stock replenishment
  • Operating Redcat Point of Sale System

Time: Monday – Friday

Various shifts between 8am – 3pm (Mon – Thurs)

Friday breakfast 6.00am – 11.00am

Friday lunch 10.30am – 3.00pm

Volunteer Shop

The Volunteer Gift Shop is located on level 1 at the main entrance to the hospital. It offers an array of retail products such as giftware, toiletries, food, babywear, stationery, fresh flowers and much more.  If you are friendly, proactive and like helping people whilst learning many different skills then this is the place for you. Duties include:

• • Provide exceptional customer service to all our customers
  • Bus ticket and phone card sales
  • Operating X Lotto (training provided)
  • Making coffee and tea
  • Assist with stock replenishment
  • Cash and EFTPOS handling
  • Ensure store operations and retail standards are implemented and maintained

Time: Monday – Friday 8.30am – 5.00pm

Saturday 9.00am – 5.00pm

Sunday/Public Holidays 11.00am – 5.00pm

Stock Controller

Our stock controllers play a very important role ensuring that stock has arrived on time and delivered to our Café’s in a timely manner. Duties include:

• • Check stock inventory and product arrival against purchase orders to ensure accurate delivery of items, verifying receipts and confirming purchase content and orders are complete.
  • Informing Administration Staff immediately when stock is damaged or missing
  • Dispatching goods to Café’s in a timely manner
  • Stocking fridges ensuring that items are not out of date
  • Ensure optimal stock levels at all times

Time: Monday – Friday 7.00am – 11.00am / 8.00am – 12.00pm

Gift Arrangements

Volunteers in this area put together a number of gift arrangements such as baby baskets, Forever Flower arrangements, confectionery/gluten free baskets or baskets on request.
